Silverlight File Upload Utility (min requirement SL 2)

This file upload utility allows a user to select MULTIPLE files from the standard Windows OpenFileDialog. The user can preview the files selected (with thumbnail images for files with extensions .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .png, .bmp, .tif). Then upload the files to a given folder.

In addition to adding an element to represent the .xaml file in the .aspx page, you need to do two things:

1 - Create an upload handler (either an .aspx page or an .ashx page). I ended up using an .aspx page because I needed access to the web cache/viewstate in order to have access to the file list after they’ve been uploaded. (See the UploadHandler.ashx and UploadHandler.aspx files in the zip file above - the page/handler basically writes the input stream of the http request to a particular directory on the web server)

2 - Set the InitParameters attribute in the Silverlight element in your .aspx page.

UploadHandlerURI - this is the fully qualified URL to the handler that you’ve created

UploadDirectory - this is the name of the directory the uploaded files are saved to. It is relative to the location of handler file.

i love how the only mention of providing uninsured people with affordable coverage includes the words “encourages states to create a universal access program”.

if you’re going to oppose the president’s plan … propose a viable solution. empty promises like ‘universal access program’ don’t mean anything to the millions who can’t afford health care (or are blatantly denied it).

If you have private health insurance, the plan would:

make sure you’re not paying more based on your gender or age;

stop the insurance company from dropping your coverage if you get sick;

cap your out-of-pocket expenses so you don’t go broke because of medical costs;

eliminate charges for preventative care visits and exams.

If you have Medicare, the plan would:

protect and preserve existing Medicare benefits;

make it easier to afford prescription drugs.

If you do not have health insurance, the plan would:

give tax credits to small businesses, families, and individuals to make it easier to buy insurance;

create a health care marketplace to let individuals and businesses bargain for coverage the way larger companies can do now;

create a public health insurance option for those who still cannot find affordable coverage.

If you have a pre-existing condition and don’t have health insurance, the plan would:

require insurance companies to sell you health insurance, regardless of your pre-existing condition (including your pregnancy);

create immediately available low-cost coverage to protect you until you can obtain alternate coverage.

How will all this get paid for?

The plan would not add to the deficit. It would be paid for through revenue including a fee on insurance companies and savings through health system reform and incentives for better quality long term care. If the projected savings are not realized, spending cuts are automatically triggers to ensure the plan cannot add to the deficit.

Those companies and individuals who can afford to cover their employees and themselves will be required to do so.

this movie was total crap. yes, the idea of a burglar breaking into a house and finding it already occupied by a psycho is interesting, but this movie didn’t do it ANY justice. the character of ‘the collector’ didn’t say a word. you have no idea why he’s doing what he’s doing. they NEVER cut away from the house once the burglar enters it. the psychopath torturing the family in the house takes FOREVER to realize that there’s a burglar in it. there’s no way ‘the collector’ could set up hundreds of booby traps in a house over a span of a few hours.

the one cool thing was that ‘the collector’ kept the people he collected in this giant trunk and used it as bait for the next house he went to. i would have liked the movie a lot more if the collector SAID something and if he maybe presented the burglar a super complex trap that he would need to use his lock-picking skills for. instead, ‘the collector’ chases him through the house trying to avoid his own crazy traps. highlight of the movie: guy getting caught in bear trap in the living room.
